►ElectionsThe
Zanu PF politburo gathered in sombre mood.
“I thought the elections were free and fair,” said one member. “SADC
promised us they would be declared free and fair even before they took
place.”
►Africa Violence
"They were shouting and telling Tsvangirai that they could kill him on
that night and nothing would happen to them,” said the officer.

►Microsoft
to Enter the Online Micropayments Space
January 29th,
2007 · Microsoft’s
move into Internet payments could threaten credit card companies’ online
profits. Gates described a system that would undercut credit card fees,
making it profitable for an online newspaper to charge small fees for
individual articles, for example.“If you want to charge somebody $0.10 or
$1 a month, that will just be a click…you won’t have to manage some funny
thing or pay some big credit charge, where half of it goes to the
clearing,” Gates said.

There is usually a
special language indicating that a bribe is needed, and an etiquette of
the way to transfer the money. In Armenia, sometimes we are told that
'lavoutyoun' (an act of kindness) or 'magharich' (a tip) is needed. In
case of the traffic police, the communication is non-verbal. When you are
stopped, you know what to do.
Here is an excerpt from the article describing a newbie asking for a bribe
in Georgia - obviously, he needed some experience.
A sweetener to a traffic cop is often placed in the ticket-book that is
handed to the driver. Parag Khanna, who is writing a book about countries
on the edge of the rich world that are trying to get rich themselves,
describes a bribe-taker he spotted in Georgia who he was sure was a
rookie. Why? The scrawny young soldier, forgoing any subtleties, merely
rubbed his fingers together in an age-old gesture.
The morning began with
visiting the victims.
►Zimbabwe
The morning began with
visiting the victims of the early morning shooting at the mourning of the
late Gift Tandere. The victims were Dickson Magondo and Naison
Mashanbanaka.
What happened? The Police sneaked up on the mourners at 3 am, with their
vehicle
lights off and then opened fire on the mourners.Naison was treated in
hospital and released.
When I arrived at the Hospital, Dickson was in theatre having an emergency
operation
and the Doctors thought they would have to amputate his foot. THEIR CRIME
IS THAT
THEY WERE MOURNING THE SENSELESS KILLING OF THEIR FRIEND.
