Miss Carnivorous      Lefties mad that Wal-Mart is "telling" its employees how to vote

They are mad because it's telling its employees to vote Republican. Lefties think it is unfair for Wal-mart to suggest to its employees that they vote for a candidate friendly to Wal-mart's interests. It is mentioned in the article that Wal-mart does not want its employees to become unionized.

The irony is this, unions have always been engaged in telling thier members how they should vote. And they always tell members to vote for Democrats

Not an election goes by that my union does not bombard me with phones calls and emails and flyers and letters telling me to vote for some filthy rich Democrat. Nearly always, their favorite candidate is a stinking rich Democrat of the far left persuasion.Miss Carnivorous

Zanu PF politburo meets on keeping election results a secret (humourous)
April 8th, 2008

This highy amusing comment from The Cape Times (South Africa) was brought to my attention by my daily zwnews email:

The Zanu PF politburo gathered in sombre mood.

“I thought the elections were free and fair,” said one member. “SADC promised us they would be declared free and fair even before they took place.”

“They would have been free and fair if we had won them,” said another. “But there was a terrible mistake and the MDC won them, so they weren’t free and fair after all.”

“Can’t we count the votes again?” suggested a third. “You know, two for us and one for them, like we used to.”

“We’ve already done that, and they still win,” said the first. “We can’t go on counting the votes over and over again.”

“What was the result exactly?” asked a general.

“Shhh,” said a police chief, “you’ll send him into a rage again. You’ve seen how he can’t bear to hear it. The main thing is we have declared it to be classified information, and anyone found guilty of releasing it will be tried for treason. If those figures get into the wrong hands, life in Zimbabwe could change for all of us.”

Everyone shuddered at the thought.

“But when will we release the figures?” persisted the general. “We can’t keep them secret for ever.”

“We’ll keep them secret until we have another election, with better figures,” said the police chief.

“I know what,” said an administration secretary, “we’ll just invert the figures. We’ll give 72% to the president instead of the 27% he really got … ”

There was a roar of anger from the head of the table, and the secretary had to dodge a flying water bottle.

“Sorry, boss, I meant the 27% that those crooks in the electoral commission said you got. And we’ll give 35% to Tsvangirai instead of the 53% we all know he didn’t get.”

“Will Mbeki fall for that?” asked the general.

“He’ll fall for anything,” said the police chief. “Aziz Pahad can explain to him it was all a misrepresentation by the media.”

“I don’t know why we bother to have elections,” said a senior politburo member. “Unless you have pre-arranged to win them, what’s the point?”

One man who had kept very quiet finally spoke up. “The fact is, the people have expressed their will in this election,” he said.

“The people’s will se ma se …,” retorted the senior politburo member rudely, only he said it in Shona.

“The main thing is to protect our land from the whites,” said the administration secretary.

“But we’ve chased nearly all the whites off it,” said the quiet man. “And kyk hoe lyk ons nou.” Only he said this in Shona, too.

“But they’ll come back under Tsvangirai,” argued the police chief.

“If they do, maybe we’ll get some food production going again,” said the quiet man.

There was a bellow of fury from the head of the table, and guards quickly dragged the quiet man out of the room. When they shut the door, you could hardly hear his screams of pain.

“With luck,” said the police chief, “we can get him to confess he rigged the whole election.”

GENERAL STRIKE:
The opposition Movement for Democratic Change has today called for a general strike in Zimbabwe starting tomorrow (Tuesday, 15 April 2008) after the high court refused to order the immediate release of the presidential election results. Take Action!

These photographs of reprisal attacks by Zanu PF thugs were taken yesterday.

The photograph on the left is of a 22 year old male from Musaruro Village, Mudzi. This is what he said what happened to him: “The ZPF youth came to my shop on Friday 11 April 2008 at 9pm, broke the door down and dragged me out of the building. They said “you are an MDC member”. They took all the groceries from my shop then burned grass on both my hands. After that they beat my hands and back with wooden poles. I went to Kotwa rural district hospital and they gave me 2 paracetamol - they had nothing else.”

The photo on the right is of a 22 year old male from Chibamo Village, Mudzi south. He stated: “15 or so ZPF youth came to my house on Friday 11 April 2008 and started to hit me with fire wood and kick me in the mouth. They beat me on my buttocks, left arm and hand. The perpetrators are known to me (names recorded). They said “why are you supporting MDC, we promise you we are here to vandalise you”.

                                                                97 percent
The billboards changed overnight from campaign to congratulations. This one reads: "Congratulations; Congratulations; Oh, our country; To you, our Asad." Or, "To you, our lion." In Arabic, asad means lion.

Bashar Al-Asad won a second term – somehow three percent of voters disapproved – and the city was awash in more parades, fireworks and street parties, both planned spontaneous rallies and planned planned rallies. The president himself briefly appeared at one yesterday.

(Erring on the side of caution, the U.S. embassy evacuated yesterday afternoon because one of the marches was headed past its front doors. Nothing happened.)

If Syrians associate one thing with democracy it may be bad traffic. With all of the celebrations, most major traffic circles and downtown streets have closed.

On Saturday, a merchant in the old city told me the story of his brother-in-law, a physician, who was driving home from work, a distance of 8 kilometers. It took him four hours.

"We hope that after tomorrow, this will all return to normal," he said, never mentioning the presidential referendum. "Inshallah," I replied. God willing.

He's still waiting. Word spread of more official celebrations today.

                                                       Health Exam and Koran Reading

The provincial election that will be held on December 11 will be the largest direct election ever held in Indonesia. Over 200 candidates are running for Governor, 19 Bupati (Head of Regency) and a handful of Mayors. But before each candidate can be officially register, they must pass 2 tests.

The Independent Election Commission (KIP) requires each candidate to undergo a health examination and also tests their ability to recite the Koran. The seven-hour medical examinations will test their mental health, lungs, heart, eyes, ears, nose, abdomen, throat and central nervous system. Candidates found to have a history of drug abuse will be eliminated. They also must pay $200 for the test.

More importantly, each Candidates' ability to recite the Koran will also be tested. Each candidate will be asked to read for 15 minutes!
