Moving Lenin
Vadim
November 10th,
2007
The
Communist Party of Tajikistan made a
request to President Rahmon for moving
the monument of Lenin from central
park of Dushanbe closer to its office.
This request was made on 7th of
October when communists traditionally
celebrate the Revolution Day.
The official commemorations were
abandoned long time ago but, the
members of communist party in
Tajikistan every year on that date go
to the central park to lay flowers in
front of the monument and organized
small gatherings with long speeches
about the lost opportunities.
This monument was erected log time
ago, during the Soviet Union and it is
now the main monument for the local
communists where they can organize
gatherings during the communist
holidays.
In my opinion, permission will not be
given. As I know their office is
located in a big governmental building
where several other governmental
agencies and departments are based.
Also, there is located a City
Procurator’s Office and most import
the Ministry of Internal Affairs and
finally there is not enough space for
the big monument in that area.
The central park is under
reconstruction, which is going to be
turned into a modern entertainment
park. I don’t think that the monument
will fit into overall picture and
finally the Dushanbe municipality will
raise an issue about moving the
monument somewhere else. But, where?
Definitely not to the area where the
communists want it to have. It means
that if they want to be closer to the
monument they should move their office
closer to it but not viceversa.
